How to Choose a Reciprocating Compressor Service Company in Iraq

Handing a critical reciprocating compressor to a contractor is a decision that shows up later in your production figures. A good contractor shortens outages and stops repeat failures; a weak one replaces parts and leaves the cause in place. These seven questions separate the two.

1. Do they specialise in reciprocating compressors?

Reciprocating compressors have their own failure patterns, clearances and limits. A team that works on them every week will find problems faster than a general mechanical contractor.

2. Will you get a measured report?

Ask for a sample report. It should list as-found and as-left clearances, rod run-out, valve and packing condition and running data after restart. "Unit inspected and found OK" is not a report.

3. Which standards and limits do they work to?

The answer should be the manufacturer's limits, with API 618 for the machine and API RP 686 for installation and alignment, not experience alone.

4. Can they supply the right spare parts?

Valve parts, rings, rider bands and packing must match the machine model and the gas. A contractor who can diagnose and supply avoids waiting weeks for the wrong part.

5. How fast can they reach your site?

For a critical unit, response time matters more than price. Ask where their engineers are based and whether they respond outside working hours.

6. Do they look for the root cause?

When a valve breaks, does the contractor check the scrubber, the lubrication and the operating point, or only fit a new valve? Repeat failures are the most expensive kind.

7. Who will actually do the work?

Ask who will be on site and what their experience is with machines like yours.
